PRF Bio-Filler in Louisville, KY
Refresh hollows and fine lines – with a filler made entirely from your own blood.
You can use your own blood as a filler. It sounds unlikely, and it is one of the more interesting things in aesthetic medicine right now. PRF bio-filler is made in the room, from a small blood draw taken at the start of your appointment. Nothing synthetic is added.
What is PRF?
PRF stands for platelet-rich fibrin. We draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, white blood cells, and fibrin, the components your body uses to heal tissue.
Platelets carry growth factors. Concentrated and placed where you want regeneration, they signal your tissue to build collagen and improve its own quality. The fibrin forms a mesh that holds those cells in place and releases the growth factors slowly over days rather than all at once.
How bio-filler is made
PRF becomes a filler through one additional step. After spinning, the PRF is gently warmed, which changes its consistency into a soft gel that can be injected to add volume.
The whole process happens during your appointment: draw, spin, warm, inject. Because it is made from your blood on the day, no two treatments are chemically identical — it is your material, prepared for you.
What PRF bio-filler is used for
Under-eye hollows, where a soft, regenerative material has particular appeal
Fine lines and crepey texture
Overall skin quality — tone, thickness, and firmness
Temples and other subtle hollowing
Patients who prefer to avoid synthetic products on principle
PRF bio-filler compared with hyaluronic acid filler
These are not interchangeable, and it is worth being clear about the trade-off. Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane® and RHA® give more volume, more predictably, and last longer, commonly a year or more. If your goal is defined structural change, they are the better tool.
PRF bio-filler gives less volume and does not last as long, since your body absorbs it over months. What it offers instead is genuine tissue regeneration: it improves the quality of the skin rather than only filling beneath it, and it comes from your own body, which removes any question of reaction to a foreign material.
Many patients use both. Hyaluronic acid where structure is needed, PRF where skin quality is the concern. Your provider will be candid about which your goals actually call for.
What to expect
Before. A free consultation. Come well hydrated, which makes the blood draw easier and improves the yield. Your provider may ask you to pause certain supplements or anti-inflammatory medications beforehand.
During. Longer than a standard filler appointment, because the preparation happens on site. Expect a blood draw, processing time, and then injection. Numbing cream, ice, and vibration tools are available.
After. Swelling and bruising are common and typically more noticeable than with hyaluronic acid filler, particularly under the eyes, settling over several days to a week. Results appear gradually over weeks to months as collagen develops, rather than immediately.
How long it lasts. The volume itself is absorbed over months. The collagen improvement it stimulates lasts longer. Most patients treat in a series of two to three sessions for a durable result.
Safety
Because PRF is made from your own blood, there is no risk of reacting to a foreign material, and no question of what is in it. That is a real and meaningful advantage.
It does not, however, make the procedure risk-free. Any injection carries risk, and we will not tell you otherwise. Expected effects include swelling, bruising, tenderness, and redness at both the draw and injection sites. Less commonly, lumps, prolonged swelling, or infection can occur. As with any facial injection, injury to a blood vessel is a rare but serious possibility, which is why anatomy training matters.
PRF is prepared and injected by our nurse practitioners. Tell your provider if you are pregnant or nursing, have a blood or platelet disorder, are anaemic, take blood thinners, have an active infection, or have a condition affecting healing.
One point of clarity: PRF bio-filler is prepared from your own blood during your appointment. It is a procedure using your own tissue rather than a manufactured product, so unlike Restylane® or Sculptra® it is not an FDA-approved product, and we do not describe it as one.
