Fullness under the chin is stubbornly independent of the rest of you. It often has more to do with genetics than with weight, which is why it can survive every diet and training block you throw at it. Liquid lipo treats it directly, without surgery and without anaesthesia.
What is liquid lipo?
Liquid lipo uses deoxycholic acid, a substance your body already produces to help break down dietary fat. In injectable form it is FDA-approved to treat submental fullness, the "double chin." Injected into the fat beneath the chin, it disrupts the fat cell membranes. Those cells are destroyed and cleared by your body over the following weeks. Once they are gone they do not come back, so results do not typically require ongoing maintenance in the way filler or neuromodulators do.
How it works
Treatment is a series of small injections across a grid marked out under the chin. Each session targets the fat layer specifically, and results build gradually as your body processes the treated cells.
Most patients need two to four sessions spaced at least a month apart. The number depends on how much fat is present and what you are aiming for, and your provider will estimate it at your consultation rather than after you have started.
What to expect
Before. A free consultation to confirm that fat, rather than loose skin or a jawline structure issue, is what is creating the appearance you want changed. This distinction determines whether liquid lipo will work for you at all.
During. Thirty to forty-five minutes. Topical numbing is applied first. Most patients describe a burning sensation during and shortly after the injections that lasts a few minutes.
After (and please plan for this). Swelling under the chin after treatment is substantial and it is entirely expected. It is the most pronounced in the first few days and settles over one to two weeks. Some patients also notice firmness, tenderness, numbness, or small lumps in the area, all of which resolve. This is not a treatment to schedule the week of a wedding or a work presentation. Give yourself two weeks of margin, more before your first session while you learn how you respond.
Results. Visible improvement typically appears after the second session, with continued change as each round is processed. Because it is a minimally invasive injectable treatment rather than surgery, the trade-off is patience.
Is liquid lipo right for you?
It works well if the fullness under your chin is fat and your skin still has reasonable elasticity.
It is not the answer if the appearance is mostly loose or sagging skin, since removing fat beneath lax skin can make laxity more apparent rather than less. It is also not a weight loss treatment. It addresses one specific pocket of fat, not body composition.

Safety
Liquid lipo is a prescription medical treatment administered by our nurse practitioners after evaluation.
Expected effects are swelling, bruising, pain, numbness, firmness, and lumps in the treated area. Less commonly, nerve injury causing temporary asymmetry of the smile, or difficulty swallowing, can occur but both typically resolve. Precise injection technique and correct patient selection are what keep these uncommon, which is why it should be performed by a trained medical provider and not a shortcut.
Tell your provider if you are pregnant or nursing, have had surgery or another treatment in the chin or neck area, have difficulty swallowing, have a bleeding disorder, or have an infection in the area.
